Need A Tool is more than just a plant hire company—we’re a family legacy built on hard work, expertise, and a passion for helping our community get the job done right. Our story began in the late 1950s, when Bob Moore immigrated from Ireland to South Africa, bringing with him a builder’s know-how and a vision for the future. In 1968, Bob and his partners founded Needham Plant Hire, quickly establishing a reputation for reliable compressor plant hire across KwaZulu-Natal.

As the business grew, so did the Moore family’s involvement. Bob’s children—Sean, Rory, Kieron, and Tracy—joined the company, each adding their own skills and energy. Over the decades, Need A Tool evolved to meet the changing needs of construction professionals, SMMEs, and DIY enthusiasts, expanding our range to include the latest in access equipment, construction tools, and mobile elevated work platforms (cherry pickers).
